“Why do we need artemia?” is a work composed of eight images. Each photograph represents
the evolution and life cycle of the brine shrimps (Artemia), animals able to survive the vacuum and
enter a state of suspension. I have chosen to breed them daily at my home. The continuous
observation of these animals, which is one of the best example of adaptation in the history of the
planet Earth, has given rise to reflections on the concept of adaptation, evolution and balance.
The questions to the animals thus become an opportunity to reflect on the precariousness of the
existence of the human beings.
This work is also part a photobook called “L’imbuto” (The Funnel) edited by Collettivo Animale.
